Recognizing What You’ve Been Feeding

How do you know if you’re watering roots?

It’s not always obvious. Sometimes it looks like replaying situations, holding onto emotions, or constantly trying to figure things out in your mind. It feels like you’re processing… but in reality, you’re feeding it.

Roots grow beneath the surface—quiet, unseen, but powerful.

And whatever you continue to revisit, dwell on, and give energy to… you’re watering.

Why Feeding It Keeps It Alive

Not everything needs your attention.

Some things don’t need to be understood, revisited, or worked through over and over again. The more you go back to it, the more it grows—deeper, stronger, harder to let go.

Scripture reminds us:

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2

This isn’t about ignoring reality—it’s about not allowing it to take root in your spirit.

You don’t always need to heal it, fix it, or figure it out. Sometimes you just need to stop watering it.

Practical Steps to Stop Watering What Drains You

Catch Yourself in the Act
Notice when you’re revisiting something that no longer deserves your attention.

Pause Instead of Processing
Not everything needs to be unpacked. Sometimes silence is the reset.

Pray, Then Let It Sit
Give it to God once—don’t keep picking it back up mentally.

Limit Mental Repetition
If the thought comes back, don’t entertain it. Let it pass.

Redirect Your Focus
Shift your attention to what brings life, peace, and alignment with God.

A Prayer for Letting Go Completely

Dear Heavenly Father,

Show me what I’ve been watering without realizing it. Help me to release the need to revisit, analyze, or hold onto things that are not bringing life. Teach me to let go fully and to trust You without going back to what I’ve already placed in Your hands. Quiet my mind and steady my heart. Amen.

Journaling Reflection to Take Forward

What have I been going back to repeatedly?
Why do I feel the need to keep revisiting it?
What would it look like to truly leave it alone and trust God with it?

Encouragement to Keep Moving Forward

Everything doesn’t need your energy.

When you stop watering what drains you, you create space for peace to grow naturally. You don’t have to force healing—you just have to stop feeding what’s keeping you stuck.

The Girl of Prayer Journal helps you release, refocus, and stay aligned daily.

Let it go. Leave it there.
Write. Reflect. Transform.
